Abundant ammonium hydrosulphide embedded in cometary dust grains

چکیده

Ammonium hydrosulphide has long since been postulated to exist at least in certain layers of the giant planets. Its radiation products may be reason for red colour seen on Jupiter. Several ammonium salts, NH3 and an acid, have previously detected comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The acid H2S is fifth most abundant molecule coma 67P followed by NH3. In order look salt NH4+SH-, we analysed situ measurements from Rosetta/ROSINA Double Focusing Mass Spectrometer during Rosetta mission. appear independent each other when sublimating directly nucleus. However, observe a strong correlation between two species dust impacts, clearly pointing salt. We find that NH4+SH- far salt, more impacts than even water. also all salts first time fluoride. amount ammonia acids balance other, confirming mostly form embedded into grains. Allotropes S2 S3 are strongly enhanced while H2S2 its fragment HS2 not detected, which probably result radiolysis NH4+SH-. This makes prestellar origin likely. Our findings explain apparent depletion nitrogen comets maybe help solve riddle missing sulphur star forming regions.

Cometary dust: the diversity of primitive refractory grains

Comet dust is primitive and shows significant diversity. Our knowledge of the properties of primitive cometary particles has expanded significantly through microscale investigations of cosmic dust samples (anhydrous interplanetary dust particles (IDPs), chondritic porous (CP) IDPs and UltraCarbonaceous Antarctic micrometeorites, Stardust and Rosetta), as well as through remote sensing (Spitzer ...

Modelling of Polarization Properties of Cometary Dust Grains

Observational data for dusty comets are summarized and systemized. The dependence of the linear polarization on various parameters (the phase angle, wavelength, etc.) is analyzed. An ensemble of aligned spheroidal particles having various sizes and chemical compositions is used to fit the linear and circular polarization observed for the comet Halley.

Motion of Cometary Dust

On timescales of days to months, the motion of cometary dust is mainly affected by solar radiation pressure, which determines dust dynamics according to the particle-scattering crosssection. Within this scenario, the motion of the dust creates structures referred to as dust tails. Tail photometry, depending on the dust cross-section, allows us to infer from model runs the best available outputs...

Optical properties of circumstellar and cometary grains

We study the effects of particle shape on the absorption and scattering cross sections of randomly oriented particles in the Rayleigh domain, i.e. particles that are very small compared to the wavelength of radiation both inside and outside the particle. In particular, we investigate the validity of the so-called statistical approach. In this approach it is assumed that the scattering and absor...
